Abrasive Dust
Abrasive dust is hard to collect. It causes high maintenance to equipment as it attacks the equipment. The following issues happen:
- Filters develop holes
- Housings thin out and develop holes
- Fans become unbalanced
- Holes develop in tube sheets
- Pumps and strainers in wet scrubbers wear out
Basically, there is no ideal way to capture the dust.
However, the Aerodyne SplitStream Cyclone is close. The SplitStream uses a secondary airstream to capture dust and drop it into the hopper. Since the secondary air rotates down the cyclone walls, it prevents dust from contacting the walls, thereby wearing out the walls. The secondary airflow can also be used to heat up or cool down the dust and the airstream.
