The company mixes all of its ingredients in a massive tank, and were on the hunt for a stainless steel and aluminum material valve that would allow them to have control of the flow of ingredients into the tank.

The company contacted Aerodyne for help, who suggested they implement a StopTight Knife Gate Valve. Our engineers designed a knife gate valve comprised of the aluminum, stainless steel, and nylon that the facility needed to effectively control the introduction of contents into their mixing tanks. The valve also helped them stay compliant with necessary food production regulations.
Aerodyne has a large selection of knife gate valves capable of handling a variety of materials and operating conditions. By design, knife gates like the one in this application are both a material handling and flow control valve that can be used either in the line of flow or at the point of discharge. Using a linear motion, a blade advances downward until the valve’s passage is closed, or it opens upward until the passage is clear and material can flow. When closed, the knife gate valve is designed to seal tightly and prevent material leakage.

Knife gate valves are ideal for controlling flow in bulk-material handling systems in the line of flow, or at the point of discharge. Consequently, this valve can be used in a variety of dry material applications. How does it work? Using a linear motion, a blade advances until the passage is closed, or withdraws until the passage is open.
In the closed position, the knife gate valve is designed to seal tightly and minimize the loss of positive or negative pressure of the system. The system must be able to tolerate a loss of pressure when the valve is in the open position.
